Dick Cheney is back out there demonstrating why he is one of the most reviled figures in American public life. During the 2004 campaign, one of the tactics that I thought was most disgusting by the Bush-Cheney team was their threat to the American people that if we elected John Kerry, we would be hit by terrorists. Now Cheney is saying that President Obama is increasing the likelihood of a future terrorist attack because he’s shutting down Guantanamo. As has been pointed out many times elsewhere, using this logic, Bush and Cheney would be responsible for not preventing 9/11. But for some odd reason, Cheney doesn’t seem to recognize that implication.
